Worksite Wellness - To screen or not to screen?

Find me on:

So you have senior management support and your employees are interested in a worksite wellness program, but now what?   A great way to start is by offering onsite biometric screenings.

A biometric screening might seem cumbersome, but with the right vendor/partner it can be very worthwhile for your employees and the organization. The biometric screenings can measure a variety of health metrics with your participants including height and weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose and nicotine. Venipuncture screenings allow for more flexibility in what can be measured/tested and the results are more accurate for certain tests than a finger-stick screening.

Watch this video we shared with our clients  so they could see exactly what takes place during a screening. CLICK BELOW TO PREVIEW - Enjoy!

Biometric screenings are important for a few reasons:

1. They provide a baseline measurement for your organization’s wellness program. You can’t demonstrate improvement if you don’t know where you started. Having baseline data allows you measure changes each time screenings are offered whether it’s annually or every other year.

2. The screenings help participants understand their own health. Often times when an individual goes to their doctor, their “numbers” aren’t shared with them. They are only notified if something is high risk. Biometric screenings provide individuals with their “numbers” so they are aware of their health status and any potential risk factors.

3. With the right vendor, the aggregate data from the screenings will illustrate trends. Employers should receive aggregate results of their screening event as long as the size of the group is large enough. This allows the organization to analyze the results, identify trends and provide appropriate resources/initiatives for the employee population.
